This memo assignment was meant to give us practice and teach us proper technique and format for writing a professional memo. Memos are often used in the workplace to communicate with people within the organization or company. The purpose of my memo was to ask permission from my supervisor to take a leave of absence from work to attend the American Nurses Association's Annual Conference. When writing my memo, I first designed my letterhead template by using the video in the module for reference. Next I chose my reason for writing the memo, which was to attend the American Nurses Association's Annual Conference, which would help me in my current position. I researched the American Nurses Association's Annual Conference page to get some ideas for supporting details and then I started writing my introduction. In the introduction, I made sure I clearly stated my purpose for attending the conference and gave details about the dates, location, and theme. Then I wrote the body of my memo, making sure that it was to the point and was at least five sentences long. I used this paragraph to explain the benefits of attending this conference for myself and the company as well. Last I wrote my conclusion, in which I reiterated the purpose and main points of the memo and made sure to thank my reader. My grade was a 96% A on this memo assignment. According to the teacher my strengths were that I did a nice job on the format and the development of the memo. I only lost one point on the assignment, which was for language and mechanics, so I guess that would be my weakness. The hardest part of the assignment was getting started and deciding what format to pick; once I did that the rest kind of fell into place. If I had to do this assignment again, I wouldn’t change much other than double checking my wording to prevent possibly losing that one point.
