One can look at Mark Zuckerburg’s emotional intelligence and see that it is high up on the scale. During his interview he did seem self-aware of what he was talking about, and he seemed slightly optimistic when it came to the future of his company (Kinicki & Fugate, 2012). He knew that his company needed to improve in order to survive in the future, but he seemed to have plans when it came to taking his company to that next level. Mark also seemed aware of his organization, the customers that Facebook was created for, and his relationship management seemed to be at a good level but it could be improved (Kinicki & Fugate, 2012). He seemed to hold a fair amount of influence over his employees in the interview, but it is something that could be improved upon.

Some of the aspects that seemed relatively strong were his self-awareness, his self-management, and his social awareness (Kinicki & Fugate, 2012). Mark seemed to be very capable of knowing what his emotions were, and he seemed confident in where is company was going to end up in the future. He was optimistic that Facebook would adapt to future changes within the world. The world is always changes, and technology changes with the world. Mark was also aware of his customers and what they would like to see in the future, including Mobile applications (Kirichenko, 2014).

The one aspect that Mark might want to improve upon is his relationship management (Kinicki & Fugate, 2012). Mark is quite an inspiration to young entrepreneurs because he is the founder of Facebook, but his employees seem to need more of a sense of teamwork. Sure, there might have been mini kitchens and toothbrushes in the bathrooms, but these physical items do not necessarily bring a team together (Kinicki & Fugate, 2012). Mark may want to consider ways to build bonds with his employees or practice several team building exercises in the future. This might even help foster new ideas in building better Mobile applications.

As the CEO of Facebook, Mark is challenged everyday, and Mobile applications are just one of these many challenges. The higher Mark’s emotional intelligence is, the more of an influence he is going to be on his employees and the easier he will overcome his challenges (Gordon, 2007). Mark has to know what challenges he might need to overcome in the future because technology is going to evolve even more in the future. IPads and Mobile devices are being used more and more frequently then laptops are, and the desktop has become more and more non-existent. If Mark can overcome these challenges then it will allow him to have a greater influence on his employees.

Sarah, I agree with a lot of what you said. Mark is very emotionally intelligent, and he is very aware of were his company is heading. He is trying his best for a future, especially when technology is always heading to new limits. Mark has a lot of emotional self-control over what he is saying in the interview, and he seems optimistic about where Facebook may go in the future (Kinicki & Fugate, 2012). If Mark were to want to improve on his emotional intelligence he would have to improve upon his performance. The only way that he could improve upon his performance is through the proper coaching and guidance (Jones, 2007). His employees should also want to support his drive to want to improve as well. Once he gains that support and guidance from his employees it would also be able to help him improve on his teamwork with his employees. Improving his performance would also ensure a future for Facebook.
