There are several different trends that have come up over the past few years, but predicting the future is not always possible. Some of these trends that will help in the future of emergency management are risk-based resource planning, using the social media, building sustainability, education, and the evolution of terrorism threats (McKay, 2014). Some of these trends are continuing trends, but several of them have just come about very recently. The use of social media in emergency planning is one of the trends that seem to have come about just recently. Social media is a fast way to communicate with people, and it can inform people around the world about a disaster in just several minutes (McKay, 2014). This will be able to help keep people calm in the future, and it will also benefit friends and family around the world because they will know about a situation sooner. The evolution of terrorism threats is also a big new trend that has arrived with the updated technology. These threats mainly target emergency centers, and the more technology improves the more precise these threats become (McKay, 2014). In order to keep up with this threat new technology will have to be invented help block those threats.

Joseph, technology will continue to play a huge role as it evolves more and more over time. Climate adaptation is going to be a great challenge that people will be faced with the more technology continues to advance. In the future, the climate will cause people to adapt to it, and changes will have to be made on how people live their lives (Mastrandrea, Heller, Root, & Schneider, 2010). Certain things, such as greenhouse gas emissions, will continue to have a huge impact on the climate (Mastrandrea et. al, 2010). The only way to keep the climate from changing so rapidly is to come up with more eco-friendly ways to live life.

Nathalia, as the emergency management field progresses with technology social media is becoming a more and more popular when people are confronted with a crisis. In one case with the Carnival Cruise line, much of what happened was reported on social media long before the news caught drift of the incident (Bryce, 2014). This was helpful not only because people were able to know what was going on in real time, but many of the passenger’s families were also informed that loved ones were safe (Bryce, 2014). Social media is a powerful tool that can be used in a crisis. As technology evolves social media will have an even greater role in incidents such as this one.
