When mangers decide to collaborate in an emergency it can, “provide an emergency manager with resources (Waugh & Tierney, 2007, p. 81).” In the article Cigna launched a collaboration that would be able to help them coordinate better and improve the lives of their patients (Business Wire, 2015). Many of the gaps in the healthcare system that had been previously left unfilled are now going to be filled. Healthcare is always evolving, and with this evolution the collaboration is hoping to reward the employees for their value as well (Business Wire, 2015). There are other benefits as well for those who choose to sign up for the program.

Those individuals who choose to sign up for Cigna will not have to change physicians which will make it easier on the patients (Business Wire, 2015). The purpose of this collaboration is to be able to manage patients even after they have been released from the hospital (Business Wire, 2015). This will prevent patients from having to be readmitted if there are any problems. Cigna will not only be able to help when it comes to the patient’s hospital care, but outpatient care, such as appointments, will be coordinated as well (Business Wire, 2015). Their main concern is that of the patient, and even the hospital costs that patients have to pay.

John, it is important for any sort of rescue team to act as a team and remain organized and prepared. In order for a team to be organized it needs to be able to have the resources and proper training to do so (Hicks, 2006). Without these resources and proper training things can lead to chaos. Collaboration is equally as important because it allows the team to go out and do more. If a team does not collaborate and communicate well enough then they will not be a reliable resource if an emergency were to really occur.

Bradley, it is very true that face-to-face communication can help create true partners and lasting relationships. Face-to-face communication and other types of communication are very important because it is known to help others thrive (Donaldson & Kurtz, 1997). Collaborations are going to be important because they are going to regulate how many people help out when a disaster strikes. It also helps regulate what kind of people help out as well. In a flood disaster you would not want people helping out without the proper ability to handle such situations.
