Human Resources discussion

I recognized four of the many clips that were shown. This just goes to show that I need to watch more of the right movies. Human resources is a very competitive advantage because in today’s world because, “it has moved beyond mere administration of the traditional activities of employment, labor relations, compensation, and benefits (Byars, Lloyd, Rue, & Leslie, 2011, p. 6).” In today’s society it helps management and strategic planning processes (source, year). It strives to promote diversity in a workforce (Byars et al., 2011). This diversity gives companies a competitive advantage because new ideas can be formed, and these new ideas can help certain companies survive the future (Byars et al., 2011).

Human resources should be in the middle of this discussion because businesses change over time, and human resources helps businesses achieve that change. Employee recognition is important to human resources because it is the employees that sometimes help create new ideas or helps make certain things in a business even better (Bayside Solutions, 2012). Human resources are even there to help implement certain training programs, especially for companies who have a diverse set of employees (Bayside Solutions, 2012). The place that I work at uses human resources, and diversity is a driving force that is seen. Barnes and Noble has expanded rapidly and has improved the benefits to employees over the past few years (Barnes and Noble, 2012). Not only does Barnes and Noble have a diverse set of employees, but Florida does see a large majority of tourists during season. This makes human resources important for the company to use.

Danielle, human capital is very important when it comes to the different types of human resources in an organization. It is responsible for a company’s growth and success (Corporate Board Member, 2015). When a company has a valuable asset, such as human capital, it needs to learn how to handle those employees. This can be done by allowing new employees to take part in certain training programs as well as making sure that they are actively engaged in the company (Corporate Board Member, 2015). Human capital can be seen as a risk and an asset to a company (Corporate Board Member, 2015). People need to retire, but at the same time new people also need to be hired (Corporate Board Member, 2015).

Michelle, the human resource staff has many different types of important jobs to do when it comes to an organization. These jobs include hiring, coordinating, organizing, classifying, and taking action (Human Resources, 2015). When human resource staff hires individuals they need to keep diversity in mind as they look through all of the potential applicants (Human Resources, 2015). They are also responsible for providing a fair and ethical recruitment process (Human Resources, 2015). This ensures that all of the applicants have the same ability to get the position that they want.
