This construction project will have a large impact on Miami and the surrounding areas because it will change the way that cargo is transported and certain railways systems are used (Port Miami, 2015). This project will have quite a large impact on Southwest Florida itself because the tunnel would not only provide a new way for cruise ships to travel, but it could also have the possibility to bring more tourism to Southwest Florida (Port Miami, 2015). Restoring the rails will also provide new means of transportation for cargo trade (Port Miami, 2015). Bigger ships will also have an opportunity to use the new port. Miami is working on expanding the waterway, and this will allow the larger ships to use this method of transportation as well (Port Miami, 2015). Environmentally friendly cranes are also under way, and this cranes will not only be able to life heavier cargo but they will also be able to do this in a way that does not damage the environment as much (Port Miami, 2015).

Such a huge project will have an impact on almost everyone’s jobs including my own. It will also impact the economy in Southwest Florida. I work as a bookseller, and most of the customers are tourists. In 2014, the amount of tourists that visited Florida was around 97.3 million (Satchell, 2015). When this construction project finishes the cruise ships could bring even more tourists to Florida. People all around the world go on cruises, and this could have a positive effect on Florida in terms of culture (Peng, 2013). The amount of tourists coming to Florida could bring along different religions, ethnicities, and languages (Peng, 2013). This is something that Florida already sees, but the changes to Miami could increase the amount of culture being brought to Florida by tourists.
