Management Discussion

Several companies in Sweden may have to hire more employees to fill in the hour gaps, but the six-hour workdays are having a positive effect on employees (Ingham, 2015). One of the concepts that can be seen in the article is that of planning. Planning is, “specifying the goals to be achieved and deciding in advance the appropriate actions needed to achieve those goals (Bateman & Snell, 2013, p. 5).” Companies in Sweden have to be able to plan ahead of time in order to make the changes that they need to make to allow employees to have that six-hour workday. If the six-hour business strategy is something that ends up working over a long period of time then the companies can look forward to a healthier future (Bateman & Snell, 2013). If the strategy does not work then they will have to determine other objectives (Bateman & Snell, 2013).

Organizing is another concept that needs to be looked at when switching over to a six-hour workday (Pakhare, 2013). The article mentions that some of the companies had to organize themselves to this switch by hiring more employees (Ingham, 2015). When a company hires more employees it also needs to organize those employees into their schedules, and it also needs to organize their new healthcare and insurance benefits. Training is another concept that should not be overlooked, especially if a company is looking to hiring a large number of employees (All Business Editors, 2015). More employees will mean more time will be needed to train the new employees. If the employees are trained effectively they can become loyal and motivated members of the company (All Business Editors, 2015).
